Funky Fabulous Fremont
There is plenty to see and do when you visit the Center of the Universe aka Fremont and now there is a Funky Fremont Tour to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Seattle By Foot has added this entertaining walking tour to its portfolio along with their Coffee Crawl, Pub Crawl and City Tour.
Renowned as Seattle’s most artistically eccentric community, Fremont wavers somewhere in time between the 50′s, 60′s and the 23rd century. Sometimes referred to as “The People’s Republic of Fremont” or “The Artists’ Republic of Fremont,” its unofficial motto is “De Libertas Quirkas” (“Freedom to be Peculiar”). You get the idea, this is a fun neighborhood.
The two-hour tour prowls the heart of Fremont, where The Dude once abided, Vladimir Lenin still stands tall and an 18-foot-high Troll reigns. Along the way guides take you to hidden spots for sublime views while dishing out plenty of history and lore about what makes Fremont special. Have your cameras ready because you will wait for the Interurban, brave the Troll lurking under the Aurora Bridge, taste some Theo Chocolate and finish up at the Fremont Sunday Market.
The tour meets each Sunday at 10 a. m. in downtown Seattle on the corner of Third and Pike. Bus transportation to Fremont is included in the tour’s $19 price for advance reservations and $23 for walkups.
