New Improv at the Market Theater
I Dare you to Go Through the Gum Wall
Are you looking for something to do this week that is fun and different than the usual dinner and drinks or a movie? Unexpected Productions is opening two new hilarious improv shows at the Market Theater, (the one behind the gum wall in Pike Place Market.) Spoken and Truth or Dare. They are both entertaining, anything goes, unexpected and… unusual.
Spoken Thursdays 8:30 PM
This is improv with impact. The night will begin with just a few words spoken, then a whole world is created with different characters and different scenes. What are the ingredients of a single meeting between people? In Spoken, a single scene is played out, then explored through glimpse into the lives of the character involved that led to, or were influenced by that single meeting. Like spokes of a wheel, all scenes are connected to the same center. We live moment to moment, but rarely think about all the connections moment have to each other. There are only four performances of this unique improv.
Truth or Dare Fridays & Saturdays 8:30
The rules of our Truth or Dare are relatively straightforward. The actors can choose to tell the truth in response a personal question, or elect to perform a physical dare selected by the audience. It is fun, hilarious and might be a little wild (PG 13). Nothing is prepared, the dares are unknown beforehand; questions are submitted by the audience. What will the performer choose? Come watch as the ensemble members and audience rise to the challenge, stand before you, and make the choice to tell a truth or take a dare, and turn it into side-splitting comedy. Through August.
And of course Seattle’s favorite improv- Theatresports Fridays & Saturdays 10:30 PM
Often imitated, but never duplicated. Seattle’s longest running show puts 2 teams of highly skilled improvisers in a competition of wits scored by a panel of judges! The high-energy, fast-paced show is theater, sports, comedy, and improv theater all rolled into one amazing hour-and-a-half! All scenes and games are made up, on the spot, from audience suggestions. Each night the two most valuable audience suggestions will win prizes and/or free passes to another show! The best suggestions are usually honest answers, so don’t be afraid to speak up!
