Wooden Boats - Opportunity Awaits
If you haven't been to the Center for Wooden Boats, this summer is the perfect opportunity. The Center for Wooden Boats is a hands on maritime museum, and offers an opportunity to experience the dimensions of an earlier time, to put your hands on the oars of a graceful pulling boat or the tiller of a traditional wooden catboat.
On Sunday (July 6), head to the Center for Wooden Boats for "Cast Off!" -- a program that allows visitors the chance to sail in classic boats. Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They'll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging!
Tacoma Farmers Market

We all love the Pike Place Market, but if you're looking for new place to enjoy, the weekly Tacoma Farmers Market is great. Every Thursday, head to Broadway between 9th & 11th in downtown Tacoma. What's really neat is that you can check the weekly availability sheet to track of what's fresh at the market!
The Market features more than 80 booths, displaying the wares of the best farmers, artisans, and preparers of ethnic delights the Northwest has to offer. And here's a hint: park your car at the Tacoma Dome Park and Ride--located at 25th Street and D Street and take the latest transportation-- the Tacoma Link. It's FREE!

The future stores will be at 3rd & Pine and are slated to open in late fall 2008. Now you can purchase outdoor gear right in downtown Seattle and spend more time enjoying all the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Washington Park Arboretum

The Washington Park Arboretum is often overlooked as a great place to spend the afternoon. The park is open from dawn to dusk seven days a week, and geatures over 20,000 trees, shrubs and vines. One of my favorite places to spend time in is the Japanese garden. The peace and tranquility is so enjoyable-- and it's especially fun to witness a tea ceremony in the teahouse.
Day classes are also offered through the UW Botanic Gardens and include topics like "Pajama Stories" for young gardeners and Summer Pruning of Trees and Shrubs for all gardeners.

Culinary Bus Tour

Gray Line of Seattle is now offering eight new culinary tours this summer. Each tour features a visit with a chef from a popular Seattle restaurant, including Crush, Troiani Ristorante Italiano, El Gaucho, Sky City at the Space Needle, Chandlers Crabhouse on Lake Union, Daniel's Broiler at Lake Union, Waterfront Grill and Palisade.
The tours start at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel, where the presiding chef will greet participants and accompany them to a market (usually Pike Place or another farmers market) to shop for the day's ingredients. Then the group will return to the chef's restaurant for a speciality dish cooking demonstration--they'll even let you take the recipe home! The four-hour tours are $100 a person and begin at 1 p.m.
